I started The Traveling Chef in 2005 as a small catering business out of our home in Peachtree City, GA. In 2008 I found the most adorable retail space and opened a gourmet kitchen shop with cooking classes. The cooking classes were an instant success! When our lease ended three years later, I decided to get out of the retail end of the business and start doing the cooking classes out of our home. Jeff and I also hosted a culinary trip to Tuscany with ten people and that truly was a dream come true!
After my mother passed away, I decided to retire The Traveling Chef in 2017 because I inherited an 87 year old baby…aka, my dad. Fast forward ~ we now live with my dad in Corbett who is 92 years old, my husband is retired and I am going nuts! I really miss being a gourmet kitchen shop owner and doing the cooking classes, while at the same time meeting wonderful people. So when this space became available in the heart of downtown Troutdale, the timing could not have been more perfect for me to start this new venture.
We will be offering a variety of cooking classes and guest chefs. I am especially excited for the hands-on classes so that everyone gets the experience of cooking with others, plus it is more fun this way! The classes offered will be of the foods of around the world: Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Germany, Caribbean, Japan and so on. But honestly, the foods of Italy have always been my most popular classes. At the end the class you will sit down and feast on the fabulous meal that everyone contributed to. We will raise our wine glasses and say, “Bon Appetit”!
